June 3, 2025Forex Market News – June 3, 2025: USD Gains on Hawkish Fed Outlook, Euro Weakens Amid Sluggish Data
The forex market kicked off the week with heightened volatility as traders reacted to fresh macroeconomic data and central bank commentary. The U.S. Dollar (USD) extended gains against major currencies, driven by renewed speculation that the Federal Reserve may keep rates higher for longer to tame inflation.
Key Forex Highlights for Today:
1. USD Strengthens on Fed Expectations
The DXY Dollar Index rose above 105.10, marking its third consecutive session in the green. Hawkish remarks from Fed officials suggested that a rate cut might be delayed until Q4 2025 if inflation remains stubborn. Traders are now pricing in just a 30% chance of a September rate cut, down from 48% last week.
2. EUR/USD Slides After Weak Manufacturing Data
The Euro (EUR) came under pressure as the latest Eurozone PMI data signaled continued contraction in the manufacturing sector. EUR/USD slipped below 1.0850, with analysts watching the 1.0800 support level closely. The European Central Bank is still expected to cut rates later this week, which could further pressure the euro.
3. GBP/USD Flat Despite Strong UK House Price Data
While UK house prices surged unexpectedly in May, the British Pound (GBP) remained flat near 1.2770. Investors remain cautious ahead of upcoming UK GDP data and the Bank of England’s next move, as policymakers remain divided on rate cuts.
4. USD/JPY Rises as BoJ Stays Dovish
The Japanese Yen (JPY) weakened further, pushing USD/JPY near the 157.00 mark. Despite inflation ticking higher in Japan, the Bank of Japan reiterated its cautious stance on monetary tightening, causing traders to sell off the yen.
5. AUD and NZD Under Pressure Ahead of RBA Meeting
Both the Australian Dollar (AUD) and New Zealand Dollar (NZD) posted slight losses ahead of tonight’s Reserve Bank of Australia (RBA) rate decision. Markets are pricing in a hold, but any dovish commentary could drag AUD/USD below 0.6600.
